It can improve your Discord’s performance and speed. Hardware acceleration utilizes specialized hardware components to perform certain tasks more efficiently than with software. Hopefully, this will resolve the issue for good. To do that, just press the “Restore Down” button. To resolve this issue, you must try Discordstreaming in windowed mode. It ultimately leads to graphical issues like this Discord stream black screen issue. It is due to unsupported firmware and old hardware (GPU). Sometimes in old Windows, your operating system is not eligible to run full-screen graphics. You will need to have a fast and reliable internet connection to download and install the driver. Now select “Search automatically for this driver” and wait until your PC search for the latest drivers and install it. Select your display adapter and press update. In Device manager, navigate to “Display adapter” and open the file. To check manually, right-click on the windows start menu and select “Device Manager” from the list. So, always update your graphics drivers whenever the latest update is available. But the issue will remain the same if you have a high-end graphics system with outdated drivers. If you have a low-end graphic system, you can’t share screen or streams without facing any bugs. Graphics enable you to render the image and transfer it. Graphics drivers are the key to enabling screen sharing over the internet. Quick fixes are to update graphics drivers, switch to Window mode, turn off hardware acceleration, disable the latest technology option, add games to Discord, enable game overlay, enable reduced motion option, quit unnecessary apps, clear Discord cache, change compatibility, and run Discord as admin. 2 Conclusion How To Fix Black Screen While Streaming on Discord ![]() The real problems are the social and opportunity costs. Because the fixed cost of construction is too high, the expected return is not worth the investment.Īccording to economist Arnold Harberger, the loss of deadweight from monopolies in the US manufacturing industry is only 0.1% of GNP, so the real problem is not the existence of monopolies. For example, it is rarely worthwhile to build second or third tram networks in cities where tram infrastructure already exists. If the fixed costs associated with providing a service or product are very high, it may not make economic sense for new competitors to enter the market. Fixed costs and variable costs can both be factors. Natural monopolies Ī natural monopoly occurs when a single company dominates the market by having the lowest prices or the products most in demand by consumers. Government granted monopolies constitute a fair portion of monopolized industries. Voters, government officials, and government employees can be persuaded to allow the creation or protection of monopolies due to various incentives, because of actions by special interest groups that can impose costs on the general public, or because social goals other than economic efficiency are being pursued. Monopoly creation is not always a strict market phenomenon. ![]() This scarcity, in turn, is used as justification for increased prices. ![]() For example, a manufacturer that has no direct competitors can limit its output, thereby producing artificial scarcity. Governments can also create monopolies in an attempt to reduce inefficiency in markets.Ĭompanies can also exhibit rent-seeking behavior even if not explicitly incentivized to do so. Rent-seeking behavior can be incentivized by monopolies, foreign trade restrictions and state subsidies. Though other forms of copy prevention aren't prohibited, legally requiring Macrovision effectively grants it a monopoly and prevents other, potentially more effective copy prevention methods from being developed.īackground of the role of government In the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, for example, the proprietary Macrovision copy prevention technology is required for analog video recorders. Governments have granted monopolies to forms of copy prevention. Trademarks can act as a form of consumer protection that lowers the transaction costs between a buyer and seller who are not personally acquainted. Franchises granted by governments to operate public transit through public roads are another example.Ī trademark or trade mark is a distinctive sign or indicator used by an individual, business organization, or other legal entity to identify that the products or services to consumers with which the trademark appears originate from a unique source, and to distinguish its products or services from those of other entities. In many countries, lucrative natural resources industries, especially the petroleum industry, are controlled by government-granted monopolies. Today, government-granted monopolies may be found in public utility services such as public roads, mail, water supply, and electric power, as well as certain specialized and highly regulated fields such as education and gambling. Under mercantilist economic systems, European governments with colonial interests often granted large and extremely lucrative monopolies to companies trading in particular regions, such as the Dutch East India Company. ![]() Government-granted monopolies may be opposed by those who would prefer free markets as well as by those who would prefer to replace private corporations with public ownership. Opponents often criticize them as political favors to corporations. Advocates for government-granted monopolies often claim that they ensure a degree of public control over essential industries, without having those industries actually run by the state. Īmongst forms of coercive monopoly it is distinguished from government monopoly or state monopoly (in which government agencies hold the legally enforced monopoly rather than private individuals or firms) and from government-sponsored cartels (in which the government forces several independent producers to partially coordinate their decisions through a centralized organization). As a form of coercive monopoly, government-granted monopoly is contrasted with an unregulated monopoly, wherein there is no competition but it is not forcibly excluded. In economics, a government-granted monopoly (also called a "de jure monopoly" or "regulated monopoly") is a form of coercive monopoly by which a government grants exclusive privilege to a private individual or firm to be the sole provider of a good or service potential competitors are excluded from the market by law, regulation, or other mechanisms of government enforcement. While attending San Antonio College, he began singing folk music with John Kuehne, who adopted the name John London by the time the pair headed to Los Angeles to attempt to break into the music business. ![]() He left school to join the Air Force in 1960, earning an honorable discharge in 1962. Michael Nesmith showed some interest in music and theater while attending Thomas Jefferson High School. While working as a secretary for Texas Bank and Trust in 1951, she developed Liquid Paper, a typewriter correction product she sold the company to Gillette in 1979 for $48 million, a fortune her son would inherit after her death in 1980. His parents divorced when he was 4, and he stayed with his mother, who relocated to Dallas to be closer to family. The only child of Warren and Bette Nesmith, Michael Nesmith was born in Houston on Dec. He formed the First National Band, one of the first country-rock bands to achieve commercial success, but he wound up spending most of his career operating on the fringes of pop-rock music while working as a pioneer in home video. He achieved success as a songwriter outside of the group as well, when Linda Ronstadt’s Stone Poneys had a hit with his “ Different Drum” in 1967.īy that point, the wool-capped guitarist started introducing elements of country music into the Monkees, a musical direction he’d continue to pursue after he left the band in 1970. Nesmith was the only member of the Monkees to write original material on a regular basis, with “ Mary, Mary,” “ You Just May Be the One” and “ The Girl I Knew Somewhere” among his signature tunes for the band. Despite their success, Nesmith bristled at the notion that the group was a creation of the producers and steered the Monkees away from their prefabricated origins, pushing the band’s record label to let the group play their own instruments on “Headquarters,” their third album. Mondale placed the blame on the policies of Ronald Reagan. And though NAFTA has become a popular political talking point, its impact on the region has been secondary. The most common culprit for Rust Belt woes cited by politicians and the media is the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement. Since the election, the term has continued to appear even more often in the mainstream media, usually in articles seeking to understand the appeal of Trump in the so-called Rust Belt region-again, despite Trump’s equal or greater support elsewhere in the country. Although Trump’s support was strong in the South, the West, and many areas of blue states like New York and California, Trump used the Rust Belt as an example of America’s fall from prior greatness. Starting with the 2016 presidential election, the term was used more than it had been in recent memory by the American press, usually to describe the then-surprising popularity of Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders, who were campaigning, just like Walter Mondale before them, for more restrictive trade policies. This is true internationally, too-China and Russia and Germany and just about any country with a history of manufacturing have rust belts where economies were once based on industry and now no longer are least, that is how such declining regions are described in news headlines. Louis, as well as abutting regions such as Appalachia, can be fun to debate over beers-just how rusty are they?-but in the end, anywhere an economy was previously based on manufacturing and has since been losing population can be part of the gang. As far west as Milwaukee and as far east as Buffalo usually works. ![]() Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania are central to the region, as well as parts of Illinois, Wisconsin, and New York. Post-industrial Midwest can serve as a synonym (along with its cousins, industrial Midwest and formerly industrial Midwest). Rust Belt is a historical term, like New England and Sun Belt (even Midwest is as much historic as geographic). There are no natural borders, as there are with the East and West Coasts, say, or topographic features, as with the Great Plains or the Rocky Mountains. The term was not invented by geographers but by a politician and the media. But the term has stuck.ĭefinitions of where, exactly, the Rust Belt is are also often debated ¹. There is a sizable contingent-especially among the baby boomers who remember the moment the term was coined-who consider it derogatory and strive to have it replaced (recent attempts to rebrand the region include the Trust Belt, the New American Heartland, and the Freshwater Region). For over three decades since, the term has been deplored, praised, and parsed. ![]() The press tweaked Mondale’s dust bowl reference into Rust Belt, to make it play off Sun Belt, another new term for an American region, this one coined in 1969 by Kevin Phillips in his book The Emerging Republican Majority, to describe a happier set of shifting demographics and economic policies. As he put it, Reagan’s policies are turning our industrial Midwest into a rust bowl. ![]() At a campaign stop during the presidential election, Mondale made a speech to steelworkers at the LTV plant in Cleveland in which he decried Reagan’s position on trade, particularly the lifting of quotas on steel imports, which had sent the industry into crisis. The name was largely created in 1984 by, of all people, Walter Mondale. THE RUST BELT, LINGUISTICALLY SPEAKING, is one of America’s newest regions. INTRODUCTION Why the Rust Belt Matters (and What It Is) ![]() Voices from the Rust Belt pulls together disparate stories from people who call the region home, offering an authentic view of the evolving economic and cultural realities for generations of Americans. The Rust Belt’s economic woes helped elect Donald Trump in the2016 Presidential race, yet the disparities between individual situations are much more nuanced than the grouped together political talking points. That said, the region is neither a stable collective nor is it easily understood. The region’s borders are not quite defined on a geographic level, but rather a linguistic one, as the term is meant to refer to the country’s steadily declining manufacturing center. ![]() ![]() Ubisoft have always done that kind of thing well and the lure of these simple side missions is hard to ignore. Even the simple act of going to your next story mission is subject to diversions as you spot an anti-air missile base here and a military compound there. Instead of climbing up a tower and scoping out a bunch of tasks for your to-do list, now you need to read notices, steal intel and talk to people who will then point you in the right direction. The usual array of hunting missions, treasure hunts, races and so on are all available.Īs with Far Cry 5, Ubisoft have chosen to make these activities show up organically. In addition all of the story missions that you’ll work through over dozens of hours of gameplay, you can also choose to take on various side missions and activities. You’ll meet various resistance fighters and leaders and you’ll earn their trust by doing the usual activities which is to say you’ll steal things, blow up stuff and kill people. After a little bit of ‘will you join the resistance or leave’ exposition, you eventually start taking on tasks that soon become missions which lead you to take out the various high-ranking officials that enforce Castillo’s cruel rule.Īt that point, it’s business as usual. Like all good bad guys, Castillo thinks his actions are justified and so acts without any mercy at all and when he makes a personal appearance to execute a boat full of civilians trying to leave the country, he makes an enemy of you, Dani Rojas (who can be male or female depending on your choice). And if anybody doesn’t like it, they’ll face imprisonment, torture and death. Having ruled the country with an iron fist, he’s now using his people as a slave labour force, using them to manufacture a miracle cure for cancer by having them work in highly toxic tobacco fields. This time it is Anton Castillo, the President of Yara, a fictional Caribbean country who is played by the ever-menacing Giancarlo Esposito. Of course, you’d be silly to expect anything particularly new from the series but there’s something about the sweet gunplay, compelling characters and believable open worlds that had us feeling quite excited for the series’ PS5 debut.Īs expected, the story here is very much hanging on the actions of another psychopath. The thing is, we really like the Far Cry games and with Far Cry 5 being something of a masterclass in this genre, we had high hopes for their newest entry. We’re all well-used to their tried and tested formula built on open worlds, more map icons than you can shake a stick at and a mixture of main missions, side missions and busy work that are designed to keep you playing their games for close to a hundred hours. When Vaas Montenegro, the charismatic psychopathic bad guy from Far Cry 3, talked about the definition of insanity, there was a certain irony that he was a creation of Ubisoft, the publishing behemoth behind such series as Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six.
